Capstone Project Proposal

Vision and Strategy

My final vision for this project is to learn more about street photography and to find interesting compositions in mundane places. My goal is to find and show the art of everyday events. I must go to many places and shoot things from different angles and perspectives to develop this idea. I need to watch for colors that contrast and pop with each other and look for patterns. A key to street photography is patience. The shot I want may take some time to get. I need to play with light as it adds more insight and perspective to the photos. All this comes with practice, so I hope to shoot as much as possible.

Research in Choosing Genre

When researching which photography genre I wanted to pursue, I gravitated toward street photography because of its candid pictures. I want to learn how to capture life with no filter. I wanted to avoid taking photos of posed positions and planned events. The spontaneity of street photography is part of the art of street photography. Another genre I was interested in was documentary photography. I didn’t choose the documentary genre because I didn’t want to focus on a specific event or topic. With street photography, I plan on taking pictures of people, places, buildings, and items that enrich the environment. Street photography has some legal and ethical concerns, such as photographing people if they do not want to be photographed. Still, I will ensure that if I take pictures of people, it won’t be of their faces, and if I do take a picture of their faces, I will ask for permission to take the photo and use it.

List of Genres and Styles

The genres of focus of my photography is street photography. I want to experiment with the use of B&W street photography and Architectural elements in photography.

Editing Style and Approach

I don’t want to stick to one editing style and would like to try out whatever fits the photographs best. I do plan on editing some of my photos in B&W if not shooting in B&W. Some editing tools I will be using are the bandage/remove tool to remove small objects that may take away from the main image of the photo. Masking is also essential when it comes to editing my photos. Masking allows me to change only certain parts of an image instead of the whole picture. My approach to photography will be the beauty in everyday life. I may add a minimalist approach to my photography because I tend to like photos that seem less clustered. The essence of street photography is capturing the mundane and normality in life to show the art in everyday events.

Final Design

My final vision for this project is to format my blog posts in a series of each place I took photographs. Each series would be a collection of the 10 best photographs from a specific location, each photograph will be labeled with the coordinates for the exact location. At the bottom of each photograph, the f/stop, shutter speed, ISO, and focal length will be given for the photo’s caption. In every main blog post about each collection in the series, I will describe the shooting process and some of my editing choices and why I thought those 10 photos were to best for my series. I plan on focusing on 10 main places to photograph for this project.

Reflection

At the end of the project, I will reflect on how the project went. What went wrong, what went right? I will discuss what I’ve learned throughout this project and what I plan on doing next.
