Research: Photography Geres and Photographers.

Hello everyone, and welcome to today’s post. Starting the new year and the Second semester of school, I’ve been researching two types of photography I want to focus on this semester, and the types of photography I will be focusing on are landscape and nature photography. These two genres of photography interest me because I like to look at the beautiful side of the world and look at all of the pretty flowers, plants, trees, etc. As for the landscape, I like the way landscape allows an image to make a particular environment look large, and I’m interested in the ritual landscape. Photography provides a more significant depth of field and opens the human eye to see all the intimate details and areas of view of the world.

Three outstanding photographers for both landscape and nature genres of photography:

Biography:

The first outstanding photographer I found in my research on Landscape photography is Ansel Adams. Ansel Adams was born in 1902, in San Fransico USA. he is famous for his incredible black-and-white photography of the American West. Ansel Adams studied photography at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915. He also studied darkroom techniques while working part-time for a San Francisco photograph finisher during the winters of 1917-1918. Ansel Adams co-founded “f/64” in 1932, a group of West Coast photographers advocating straight photography without manipulation.

Why does their work stand out in the photographic world?

Adams’s work stands out in the photographic world by using black and white photography, specifically with black and white shots. Adams brings out depth in his photographs and sets a mood for his images without using color.

What can I learn from examining his photographs?

What I learned from examining Ansel Adams’ photographs is that he incorporates different photogenic devices in his works, such as composition, lighting, technical proficiency with cameras, and his knowledge of art and advocacy, where he used advocacy to show upcoming photographers that they can use their minds to bring out creativity and to inspire positivity. Lastly, I learned that his work is precious since he uses it to inspire photographers seeking to develop their skills in the art of photography.

Biography:

The second outstanding photographer I found in my research on landscape photography is Michael Shainblum. Micheal Shainblum was born in 1990, in San Diego, California. The current location of where he lives is unknown. He is a younger photographer at the age of 33. He is a self-taught photographer; he has been working as a professional photographer and filmmaker since age 16. His work has been recognized and live on multiple platforms, including National Geographic, Wired Magazine, and the Weather Channel.

Why does their work stand out in the photographic world?

Michael Shainblum’s work stands out in the photogenic world because of his unique style of photography. He is talented in capturing mesmerizing landscapes and blending stunning natural scenery with techniques such as colors, compositions, and post-processing to ensure his work is visually attractive to his viewers.

What can I learn from examining his photographs?

I learned from examining Michael Shainblum’s photographs that he has a very creative composition because he is unique in his ideas of how he wants to set up and capture his photographs by incorporating framing and elements. I learned how he includes light by how his pictures have a light source, whether sunlight or manipulated light. And how he observes his paintings and makes sure he uses his light sources and makes them effective.

Biography:

The third outstanding photographer I found in my research on Landscape photography is Michael Kenna. Kenna was born in England in 1953 and lived in Seattle from 2007 to 2013. Kenna’s work is known for his minimalist black-and-white landscape photography. Micheal Kenna studied photography at the Banbury School of Art and the London College of Printing in 1976.

Why does their work stand out in the photographic world?

Micheal Kenna’s work stands out in the photographic world because of his unusual black-and-white photography, which uses ethereal light, usually shooting around dawn or night, using long exposures for up to 10 hours.

What can I learn from examining his photographs?

By examining Michael Kenna’s photographs, I gained insights into his expertise in artistic vision, technical skill, and the emotional depth he brings to his work. Also, I learned that Kenna manages time in his work, for instance, when he shoots mainly at dawn or night and uses long exposures for up to 10 hours. I also learned that Kenna liked to use emotion in his photographs by playing with his composition, subject matter, and lighting to set a mood for his viewers examining his work. Lastly, I learned that he used framing by incorporating lines, shapes, and negative space to create visually appealing images.

Biography:

The first outstanding photographer I found in my research on Nature photography is Frans Lanting. Frans Lanting was born in the Netherlands in 1951. and is currently living in Santa Cruz, California. He owns his very own studio, gallery, and stock photography service. He is a well-known nature photographer because Lanting’s work involved documenting wildlife and ecosystems, contributing to environmental awareness. Frans Lanting’s work stands out in the photographic world because, like many photographers, he has a distinctive artistic vision, attention to detail, innovative techniques, and commitment. Lanting’s work is also well-known for the quality impact of his photographs. His works have also been famous due to books and articles he published about his work, such as “LIFE: A Journey Through Time,” which was significantly recognized because of the breathtaking imagery and informative narratives.

What can I learn from examining his photographs?

I learned from examining Frans Lanting’s photographs that he is talented in technical skills by making sure he successfully uses focus, depth of field, and shutter speed to make his pictures appear more attractive. Lanting also uses storytelling in his photographs because his work captures the natural world. By the way, he captures moments that include a narrative or emotions by providing a sense of connection with the subjects to his viewers. Lanting is also very aware of his environment because his work represents his appreciation for the natural beauty of the natural world. Lastly, Lanting is very patient and observant in his work because he observes animal behavior, waits for the right moment, and captures unique and authentic moments in nature.

Art Wolfe is the second outstanding photographer I found in my research on Nature photography. Wolfe was born in 1951 in the USA. He is a versatile nature photographer who can quickly adapt to diverse ecosystems. Wolfe studied photography at the University of Washington in 1975, where he then earned his bachelor’s degree in fine arts, which led him to become a successful nature and wildlife photographer. His works have been noticed internationally by his TV series, “Art Wolfe’s Travels to the Edge.” I also have many books published from 1991-197, and lastly, I won the Magazine Photography Award of Alfred Eisenstaedt in 2000 and other awards from 2001-2004.

Art Wolfe’s work stands out in the photographic world because of his beautiful artistic vision, versatility, and, lastly, his attention to detail.

What can I learn from examining his photographs?

What I can learned from examining Art Wolfe’s photographs is that Wolfe is very versatile when it comes to his photography work. He can quickly adapt to various environments where he shoots his pictures. I also learned that Wolfe prioritizes quality and detail in his photographs by including intricate details of nature or people’s expressions in nature. Lastly, Wolfe has a talent for revealing the beautiful side of the natural world.

The third outstanding photographer I found in my research on Nature photography is Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Bertrand was born in 1946 in Paris, France. He is a professional animal photographer and an environmentalist. Bertrand is a natural, self-taught photographer. Bertrand’s passion for photography developed through personal exploration and experimentation. Arthus-Bertrand’s journey as a photographer began in the late 1970s, and he obtained his skills through hands-on experience, traveling, and being interested in the natural world. His work became widely known because of his unique style in capturing the natural shows within his photographs.

Why does their work stand out in the photographic world?

Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s photography stands out because of his innovative use of aerial photography, how he shows the natural environment, and how he can make his photography come to life by how his photos tell stories through his images. His work highlights photography’s beautiful side, influencing environmental awareness and advocacy.

What can I learn from examining his photographs?

Examining Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s photographs, I can learn that Bertrand has lots of experience in the technical, artistic, and storytelling side of photography. I also know that Bertrand was unique in his photography, especially with his aerial shots from above, and by traveling the world, capturing photographs of other countries and what lifestyles look like in different countries. Lastly, you can learn that he is very educated about the environment and advocates and stands up for his belief that the environment should be clean and treated with respect.
