Capstone Project: Blog Post #1

Hello everyone, and welcome back to today’s post. In today’s post, I will be giving some insight as to how I am starting my large second-semester project, along with the progress and how my work is slowly transforming, as well as the experiences through trial and error on how I’m learning how to master photography, and how I’m gradually progressing as a photographer.

My Process and Procedures:

So, for my process and procedures during this project, I want my photography experience to be portrayed through a down-to-earth perspective and show that only some photographs you take will be perfect. I want to demonstrate that by explaining through my procedure: to incorporate pictures I’ve taken that aren’t necessarily perfect or “appealing” and lack something. I want to set up my work to show my viewers the struggles I went through to capture appealing pictures for you, the viewers.

What was my goal?

My goal was to bring out the beautiful side of the natural world that I feel that many people miss because we’re always too distracted by looking at our phones or even just looking around at a specific landscape to have your naked eye see the beauty that lies within an area whether, it be the colors, or patterns there’s lots of beauty within our world that we fail to realize.

What was learned?

After taking a few experimental nature and landscape shots, I learned that in these genres of photography, it’s not just aiming the camera at a tree or a field, and that’s it. No, it’s a lot more than we realize; many elements tie into nature and landscape photography, such as using angles to capture a particular subject and have it successfully captured within the frame. Another aspect contributing to these photography genres is having surroundness within your settings or environment. It is crucial to be familiar with your surroundings to know what types of things you may see or what type of lighting is in that particular environment. Lastly, it’s essential to remember that the photographer makes the photography; the photography doesn’t make you. In any photography, many people fail to realize that it’s not just the camera usage that makes the photograph; it’s also a part of the photographer’s creative ability to create and allow an image to come to life by the use of knowing their surroundings and making sure to focus and capture their subjects to make viewers who see their work and think, wow because like I mentioned earlier about how many people fail to realize the true beauty that lies within the natural world.

What was adjusted as I tried to capture my idea?

As I tried to capture my idea, I had to adjust to be more open and creative within my shots, not just shoot something that didn’t look appealing and bland. I had to adjust to my surroundings and ensure I included crucial elements in my photography, such as focus, angles, rule of thirds, and awareness of my surroundings.

What worked and didn’t work?

What didn’t work for this photograph is that I tried to focus the military plane more and make it not appear blurry, but I couldn’t figure out how to get it into focus.

When and where this image was taken:

This photograph was shot last year in my front yard. I remember standing there with my camera out when I heard a loud noise above my head. And I quickly looked up to run and follow the plane, and just at the last second, I could capture the aircraft perfectly centered between the branches, which I thought had a very slim chance of happening again.
