Research Photography Genres and Photographers

Vlad Tretiak is one of the three photographers that I did research on. Vlad is a self-taught photographer, 2D artist, and graphic designer. Vlad took many pictures of his hometown for his series “A Small Town in Siberia.” This photo stands out to me because of the color and because it looks quiet or peaceful but also scary. One thing I learned from this photo is that light can help a lot with night photography. I couldn’t find any photos of Vlad himself, so I used a photo of his work. Another photographer who does night photography is Tarik Tosun. Tarik Tosun developed an interest in photography when he was in graduate school. Tarik lived in Philadelphia for 6 years and then moved to New York. He captured many photos in Philadelphia and New York. I can’t find any photos of Tarik Tosun, but I found what I think is his best photo. I consider this his best photo because I like how the lights are reflecting off the water, and it looks kind of animated. The last photographer I found who does night photography is Rainer Wengel. This photo is one of his photos of the Aurora Borealis. https://www.thephoblographer.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/02da8a21640937.56305dfa8eb04.jpg When looking at all the photos he’s taken, this one is my favorite. What stands out in this photo to me is the mountain. I also wonder how tall the mountains are. There’s not very much information about Rainer Wengel, but I found out that he focuses mainly on taking pictures of the sky.  

This is an example of nature photography. When doing nature photography, I like to get pictures of things with some color to them.

This is Eliot Porter. Eliot Porter traveled to many places, like Antarctica, Africa, China, the islands of the Galapagos, Maine, and New Mexico. Eliot also liked to capture pictures of birds. He was trained as a chemical engineer and doctor. He left his academic career to do photography. When looking at this photo, I learned that bright colors stand out a lot more when taking photos of nature.

This is Arthur Morris is another nature photographer, but he’s also a writer and an educator. Arthur Morris takes photos of birds out in nature. Arthur was born on January 19, 1922. He was raised in the suburbs of Sydney, Bondi. When he was 5, his family moved around a lot and ended up in the suburbs of Beverly Hills. The eyes on the bird stand out the most to me. Something I learned from this photo is that wild animals in nature might be an interesting thing to capture a photo of.
